Principle Investigator: Aaron Towne


Aaron Towne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan.   Before joining the faculty at Michigan, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University.  He received his PhD and MS degrees from the California Institute of Technology and his BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He is a recipient of the 2020 Young Investigator Program Award (YIP) from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), a 2022 CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), a 2024 Young Investigator Program Award (YIP) from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and multiple best paper awards from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

    Ali received his B.Sc. from Sharif University of Technology and M.Sc. from Northern Arizona University.  His Ph.D. research develops algorithms for efficiently computing resolvent and harmonic-resolvent modes for three-dimensional and other large-scale problems.

    Peter recieved his B.S. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego.  His Ph.D. research focuses on developing space-time reduced-order models as well as new tools for linear stability analysis.

    James received his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa.  His Ph.D. research seeks to develop new laminar-to-turbulent transition models for high-speed boundary layers.

    Yuhao Zhou

    Yuhao received his B.E. from Dalian University of Technology and a dual M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering from the University of Michigan.  His Ph.D. research aims to use closed-loop flow control to reduce the noise emitted by turbulent jets.
